Where will my shiatsu session take place?
Your shiatsu session will take place in a warm, comfortable, quiet room. Soft music may be played to help you relax. You will lie on a large soft mat on the floor or table, especially designed for your comfort.

Must I be completely undressed?

You will be fully clothed in loose pants (like sweat pants or scrubbs), a loose shirt and socks. You will remove all jewelry before the session begins.

What parts of my body will be treated?

Each shiatsu session is different. The giver often begins with working on the abdomen or "hara". S/he moves around the body using stretches, range of motion, compression, holding, rocking and pressure points that are the same as accupuncture

What will the session feel like?

Because each session is deifferent, you may feel different sensations with each treatment. People report feeling comforted, relaxed, energized, clear headed and free of pain at the end of a session. During the session you may fall asleep, experience emotions coming to the surface, tenderness along points being worked, releived.

What should I do during my shiatsu treatment?

As much as possible, I want you to surrender yourself to me, relax. You don't have to do anything. I will do the moving and "take care" of any worries you have during your session.

How will I feel after my shiatsu session?

Many people report feeling a greater sense of well being and relaxed. You should rest and drink plenty of fluids after your session so that your muscles will not become sore from the work that was done.

Are there any medical conditions that would make shiatsu inadvisable?

Shiatsu is a form of bodywork that can be adapted to any body regardless of size, shape, age, medical condition or agility. If you you have any specific questions about the use of shiatsu techniques and safety with regards to a current medical condition, please consult your physician prior to making an appointment.
