THE HEALING ART OF SHIATSU
- Shiatsu is an eastern form of bodywork originating from Japan and China. It is approximately 2000 years old.
- Shiatsu always works on the “cause” of the symptom that the client is presenting, such as headaches, low back pain, insomnia, muscle tension, stress etc.
- The philosophy behind shiatsu is that there is no separation between a person’s mind, body and spirit. When there is an imbalance in one of these areas, there is an imbalance in all of them. A shiatsu practitioner works to bring all three in to balance, creating a holistic approach to healing.
- During a shiatsu session, the client wears loose comfortable clothing and lies on a large mat on the floor. The practitioner applies pressure using her palms, forearms, elbows, knees or thumbs along the entire body. The practitioner also uses stretching and range of motion to move energy through muscles and organ systems. Shiatsu can also be performed on a massage table or in a chair.
- Clients often feel relaxed, calm and energized at the end of a session. Many people have reported an increase in self confidence and contentment with their life.
- Shiatsu is for every person and any body size, type, age or ability.
- Shiatsu does not attempt to “fix” what is wrong with a person.
- Shiatsu works to enhance what is “right”, what the client has done well, and support the person to change what must change in his/her body to bring about balance.
A treatment lasts approximately 75 minutes and costs $75.
